BRAND AFRICA 100: AFRICA’S BEST BRANDS

Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands, a consumer-focused survey which seeks to establish brand preferences across Africa, was developed by pan-African branding and reputation advisory firm, Brand Leadership Group (www.brandleadership.africa) founder, Thebe Ikalafeng, in 2010 supported by Kantar (then TNS), the globally respected consumer knowledge and information company with a clear goal: to provide an objective metric on brands in the continent – specifically, the brands that Africans relate to across Africa, regionally and locally. The field research is conducted by Geopoll (www.geopoll.com), the world’s leading mobile survey platform with a database of over 250 million respondents in emerging markets around the globe. The research is conducted across at least 25 markets which collectively account for at least 80% of the continent’s population and GDP.

Research on African Media, Brands and Consumers

The ‘How Africa covers Africa in the media’ research has established that 63% of the foreign media that reports on Africa have no correspondent in Africa, and only 1% of their content is from African correspondents. The research was commissioned by Africa No Filter (www.africanofilter.org), a donor collaborative funded by Ford Foundation, Bloomberg, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Luminate, Open Society Foundation, Comic Relief, British Council and the Hilton Foundation. The ANF Research consortium conducts research into narratives about Africa. Its work is done in partnership with AUDA Nepad and The Africa Union and includes funding from Facebook. More
